At ARC Medicals we are able to carry out many different workplace medicals for you or your organisation.

Personal Track Safety (PTS) Rail Medical

PTS is a system of safer working practices employed within the UK that is designed to ensure the safety of railway workers who are going to work on or near the line.

The PTS Courses (which is where any rail maintenance career begins) can only be attended after the successful completion of the PTS Medical and a Drug & Alcohol Test. These tests are the requirements of Network Rail for obvious safety reasons and are compulsory. A valid PTS Medical and PTS Drug & Alcohol Test are required throughout your entire rail career.

Safety Critical Medical

More and more main contractors are now requiring workers to undertake Safety Critical Medicals before they are allowing them on site to work. We are fully accredited to deliver these medicals.

“Where the ill health of an individual may compromise their ability to undertake a task defined as safety critical, thereby posing a significant risk to the health and safety of others.”

It is important that safety-critical workers are not suffering from medical conditions or undergoing any medical treatment which is likely to cause sudden loss of consciousness or incapacity, impairment of awareness, concentration, balance or coordination or significant limitation of mobility. A medical, such as a fitness-for-task health check, as identified in the National Industry Standards for Occupational Health, would go a long way towards ensuring these legal requirements are met.

Fit to Work Medical

A “Fit to Work Medical” or “Fitness to Work” is a medical assessment performed to assess whether an employee can safely carry out a specific job or task. The medical assessment determines if an employee is medically fit to perform the job or task that they are employed to do.

Do you know if your employees are fit for the work that they do? Perhaps they have existing health problems that could be made worse by certain jobs. If so, they could be putting themselves and you at risk? If an employee is not suitable for the work they do, then there is the risk of future ill health and absence. If you are unsure of their suitability for the job then you need professional advice.

Employment Medicals are a way of protecting your workforce and should be a part of your organisation’s risk assessment process. If your employees are at risk of injury than your business is at risk of litigation.
